Originally developed in the early 1900’s as part of the University Place the University West Neighborhood was created after TCU’s move from the Forrest Park area. Following TCU’s relocation the University West Neighborhood grew from bungalows and cottages to the larger multi-story homes of today.
The University West Neighborhood is bookended by not one but two Fort Worth landmarks. University West is surrounded by TCU to the south, Colonial Country Club to the east, and its namesake University Drive to the west. While Colonial Country Club and TCU are the most well known landmarks, the University West Neighborhood is also home to several historical homes, which serve as landmarks highlighting the continued success of the University West Neighborhood.
George C. Poston was a retired Weatherford merchant, owner of Baker-Poston Department Store in Weather-ford as well as president of Southwestern Building & Loan Association and vice-president of Kingsbery Manufacturing Co.
This two-story house was constructed in a prominent corner location in the University Place subdivision about 1926; architect Wiley G. Clarkson was responsible for the design.
Faced in dark polychrome brick, the Mediterranean style house has a staggered plan with three interlocking hip roofs covered in red Mission tile. A one-story blocky portico with parapeted roof terrace is set in the southeast corner of the staggered plan; portico and window sills are embellished with cast stone trim.
